How To Deal With A Cat That Meows A Lot

Anyone who has dealt with a cat that meows a lot can attest to the fact that this can be nearly as annoying as a baby who cries a lot – except that the baby has one advantage over the cat: you probably love your baby a lot more than you love your cat! When you have a cat that will not stop meowing, this can make it especially frustrating, as it can sometimes seem like there is no end in sight to all the noise; if you have a cat that meows a lot, however, there are a few things you can do to deal with it.

First off, you need to realize that the most effective means of communication your cat has with you is its meow, and if it is meowing a lot, there is a chance it is trying to tell you something; if you have checked your cat’s food and water (and if your cat is not always prone to lots of meowing), you should give your cat a thorough looking-over, making sure there is nothing wrong with them. And if you have established that nothing is wrong with your cat on the outsideĀ (and if your cat continues to meow more than normal), you should consider taking them to the vet!

Cat Training Secrets.

On the other hand, you might discover that your cat is, in fact, trying to communicate with you – but what they are trying to communicate might simply be that they are wanting to be pet, or that they are wanting to go outside. Before you give into this pleading on their part, realize that animals get conditioned to certain behavior; just as a dog will learn that they can get what they want by begging if you allow this to happen, your cat will learn that they can get what they want by meowing if you allow this to happen – and this is certainly not behavior you want to encourage!

If you have established that all is well with your catĀ - and if you have come to the conclusion that they are meowing for attention – you will want to ignore them until the meowing ends; only in this way can you train them to stop meowing for attention!

How To Train Your Cat

Lots of cat owners mistakenly believe that it is impossible to train cats, and so they put up with their cat’s bad behavior, thinking there is no way to train it out of them. And while it is not nearly as easy to train cats as it is to train dogs, there are several similarities between the two. Once you understand the little things it takes to train your cat, you will be able to share your house with a truly well-behaved feline!

The first thing for you to realize about cats is that, like dogs, they respond well to the tone of voice you use. You should always keep your voice at the same level (never yell!), but use a stern tone when they have been bad and a happy tone when they have been good. This goes for anything, including litter box usage, clawing of furniture, and even (when they are a kitten) biting.

You can also condition your cat to respond to auditory signals, and you can use these signals to let your cat know they are doing something wrong or even to call them. For instance, when your cat is misbehaving, you can have a bell (or something else whose noise your cat does not like) that you can use. On the other hand, you should clank a fork against a plate any time you are feeding your cat their favorite treat. You will soon be able to “call” your cat, just like you would a dog, as they will begin to associate the clanking of a fork against a plate with an understanding that they should come to you.

And one of the most effective ways to keep your cat from doing things you do not want them to do is using a spray bottle. If you fill a spray bottle with water, and spray your cat in the eyes when they are scratching your furniture or doing whatever else you do not want them to do, they will not only quit, but they will also know what the spray bottle means when they even just see it!

Once you follow these tips, you will realize that cats can be trained just as well as dogs, and it is not really so difficult to have an obedient cat!
